BOOK CLUBS
We Support Book Clubs in Grantham!
The Dunbar Free Library supports quite a few book clubs in Grantham by securing multiple copies of books from other libraries.
These groups were started by individuals who shared a common interest. Some examples are Nite Owl Club, the Breakfast Club, Elks, Ya Yas, Winding Wood and Louise Penny club. Come see, call, or email Sandy for the key contact person of the club you think you’d like to join.
Are you interested in forming a new club? Ask us.
The Book-To-Movie club is the only group hosted by the DFL library. Practically since the beginning in 2016 there has been a mix of fiction and non-fiction titles with their invariably at least slightly fictionalized film version. Authors have included Anita Shreve, Annie Proulx, Bryan Stevenson, Henry James, Judy Blume, Dick Kings-Smith (yes we go juvenile occasionally) and Deborah Moggach, to name just a few. We can’t claim a particular monthly date routine, but book discussions are usually Monday at 6:30 with the movie most often the following Thursday, same time. With popcorn. We’ve never done 12 titles a year, deliberately. More like 7-9, I think, although now that I rethink, sometimes there are two books (one a juvenile more than likely) going quite close to another. New members are ALWAYS welcome.
